Sadhu

Anjan Ghosh, working and living in Kolkata, India, dives into the depths of the village life style, and “if the need be, take a few snaps”.

One of this beautiful snaps is “Sadhu”. In India, ‘Sadhu’ is the expression used to describe those men and women who have detached themselves from everything worldly and are very spiritual in order to find the way to the salvation of their gods and not to become reincarnated. The word Sadhu is taken from a Sanskrit term meaning “to reach the goal”.

The Gangasagar pilgrimage and mass is the second largest religious gathering of humanity after the holy Kumbha Mela. The Kumbha Mela is attended once every four years at changing locations in the north, middle and central west of the country. The Gangasagar holy fair and pilgrimage takes place annually at the southern tip of Sagar Island in the Ganges Delta on the Gulf of Bangalore. This is what makes Gangasagar so special.

In this work he tries to capture only those moments of a village or a rural life, which would bring out the hardcore truth into light, because capturing the main essence of india through its rural and semi-urban life is what drives Anjan passion most in photography.
